Sex And The City - The Characters
Don’t watch Sex And The City with the intention of trying to define or categorize Carrie Bradshaw’s sense of style. Because there is no definition. Carrie, played by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, is the most fashion-forward of the group and a peek into her closet will reveal everything from vintage wear to Gap Jeans to haute couture. The mix is outrageous and fun! While Manolos are always a must, each season, Carrie offers up a different, signature fashion statement ” her nameplate necklace in season 1, the flower pins in season 2, then Fendis, then gloves, then hats,….
Samantha Jones, one of the Fab Four, is a high-powered, high-class public relations executive. And, as such, she needs to dress professionally during the day. Not toooo professionally, mind you. Her suits are an awesome mix of vivid colors that go wonderfully with her blond hair and show off her killer body.
Miranda Hobbes, the pragmatic member of the group, has a more austere style for daytime wear. As an attorney, she prefers power suits to get the job done. Her weekend wear is perhaps the most casual of the Fab Four, preferring sweat pants to frilly skirts. However, her choices in evening wear combined with her flashy, red hair, make her a stand-out in any crowd!
And then there is Charlotte. Charlotte York, whose wardrobe reflects her Park Avenue lifestyle. All pastels and coordinated, with matching accessories. Her crisp, refreshing take on fashion often makes her appear prim and sometimes grim, but watch when the girls go to Atlantic City! She can haute it up with the best of them!
And what about the men of Sex And The City? Certainly no discussion of the characters would be complete without including Mr. Big. Although his first name is finally revealed in the final episode, and we also learn his full name in the movie, we’ll still call him Mr. Big. And being the successful New York businessman that he is, we see him most of the time in Armani….or nothing!
Steve Brady, Miranda’s beau and future husband, is every guy’s guy. Jeans and a T-shirt are all it takes to make this man happy. In fact, in one of the earlier episodes, Miranda has to buy him a suit! Nothing at all wrong with that, I say. He’s cute, he’s charming, he has beautiful blue eyes and he believes in monogamy. How many guys do YOU know that fit that description?
The man who eventually captures Charlotte’s heart, Harry Goldenblatt, is short, bald, very hairy and somewhat of a schlupp. But he’s so lovable! As an attorney, he dresses in smart, professional suits during the day. But in the morning and on his days off, he much prefers his birthday suit!
And last, but certainly not least, there’s Jerry Jerrod, aka Smith. An aspiring actor and fashion model, we see Smith in everything from suits to jeans to leather to…nothing! And his hair goes from long to short, eventually to bald as he shaves his head to support Samantha in her fight against breast cancer.
